CONCEPT DESIGN OWNER'S REPRESENTATION

North Adams, a town that has suffered from post-industrial economic decline, also boasts one of the great regional art centers, Mass MoCA. In addition, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts resides there and continues to grow in stature and size. Several stakeholders, including MoCA, MCLA, and the city of North Adams have launched a downtown redevelopment effort centered around a classic- and currently uninhabited- movie palace in the town center.

MVPA has been hired to consult both on the design and renovation of the space, as well as to help the BID assess and develop a cultural district plan. Although the remodeling of the movie theater is at the center of the enterprise, the fundamental focus is downtown rehabilitation, and MVPA will work with numerous government, non-profit, and commercial stakeholders to create a revitalized, dynamic, sustainable cultural district that will draw both local and regional visitors.
