STRATEGIC PLANNING

The largest arts center in New Hampshire had just MVPA to develop its long range planning in 2006 when its executive director suddenly passed away. A board member stepped in to run the center on an interim basis, and the board was faced with the question of whether to put off the long range planning until a search for a permanent successor had been undertaken and the position filled (potentially a year away) or whether to proceed.

The center decided that the planning process was more important than ever, and asked MVPA to develop the new plan –both to guide the changing role of the center and to inform their view of the right candidates to take over its leadership. The planning took five months and resulted in recommendations that ranged from structuring of internal financial control systems, to anticipating challenges for staff and program growth, to establishing long-term strategies for growing revenue streams through real estate development and ancillary space use.
